Panama to San Blas
The San Blas Islands and the associated mainland territory are called Kuna Yala. The land is not divided into individual properties and fences are absent. Kuna’s treat their forests the way we would treat an anchorage. Tribe members can pass through and benefit but not claim possession by industrial development. That is why the landscape still look much the same as when Vasco Nunez de Balboa first arrived. Kuna’s are welcoming to visitors but prohibit and non Kuna’s from settling. Foreigners are prohibited from buying land or property.
